An impromptu party happened on the evening of January 11 around 8:00 PM in the middle of Christmas Lake between Elliotts and Midthuns, on nothing other than an ICE CAROUSEL!
How did this come about and what is an Ice Carousel??
Friday night Sean Elliot, Aaron Peterson and Declan Armour built an ice bar on the lake.
Saturday mid morning Sean Elliott, Declan Armour, and Gregg Elliot (not pictured as he was the photographer) went out with an idea to build an ice carousel.
They outlined a 100’ diameter circle using a tape measure with the ice bar as the radius center. They designed and built a device to mount a chain saw to, they began their 8 hour effort to cut the circle through 10” ice, They cut not one but two circles to create an 8” +/- gap for the ice circle (carousel) to rotate, the rotation was powered by a trolling motor cut into the edge of the circle.
During the day, winter outdoor enthusiasts started noticing something was happening and word started to spread. The ice carousel team kept working.
As night grew near the ice carousel came alive with lights. The curious came out from all directions to join in the fun or this rotating circle of ice providing a surreal evening on the lake and a chance for neighbors to revel in it!
