Events

Events supported by the Christmas Lake Homeowners Association are part of our treasured history, present day community and efforts to engage our neighbors in fun, fellowship and the work of enjoying and preserving the lake for years to come.

The events committee is chaired by Gregg Elliott. If you are interested in being a part of the committee, planning and organizing these great events please reach out to Gregg.

Informal gatherings happen year round as people meet up on the water and form “Tie Ups” watching the sunset, wait their turn to water ski on the calm waters on either side of the lake, walks, bike rides, snow shoeing or Nordic skiing around the lake with time to stop and talk to neighbors, and we often gather for concerts in the park in Excelsior. The Association maintains a Nordic Ski path around the perimeter of the lake during snow season.

Lake care is a gathering time as well for neighbors to work together to fight AIS, public access maintenance and times when a neighbor needs a hand from another neighbor to put in a dock, fell a tree or spread some mulch.

Organized Events

May – Memorial Day Fun Run Walk Bike

The family event starts at 9:00 AM on Memorial Day. Email registration is sent out prior to the event.  Entrants gather at the south end of Christmas Lake Road in the circle. The walk is approximately 4 miles around Christmas Lake. Awards and prizes follow the event.

The organized Fun Run Walk was started in 1998 in memory of Dr. Bill Newhouse, an active Christmas Lake community builder, a dentist and family man. Newhouse’s own a home on Christmas Lake Point. Funds raised each year are donated to a local charity.

July – 4th of July Boat and Dock Parade

In 1972 Lake residents held the first organized Fourth of July boat parade. Historical photos indicate 4th of July parades occurred occasionally as far back as 1920. The 4th of July boat and dock parade is held every July 4th at 1:00 PM.  Two weeks prior to the event residents are given a theme for decorating their boats and or docks. A pontoon of judges circulates around the lake preparing comments and voting on the prestigious awards of. A large community gathering after the contest offers a poetic announcement of winners, passing of awards and summer eats.

  2. Eagle Award and Honorable Mention for best decorated dock
  3. Eager Beaver Award for efforts made with high energy by a large group
  4. Shark Award for most irreverent, off color, or humorously decorated boat or dock

February – Winter event

New to our list of events is a February winter event, meant to bring winter weary residents together to catch up and be entertained. In 2023 the gathering happened at The Old Log Theater for dinner and a show and in 2025 Stevie Rays House of Comedy was host to our group. Many people participated and asked for more time to socialize together.

A surprise winter social opportunity occurred when the Elliotts with help from a few friends created a large “ice carousel” which was created by using a chain saw to cut a 100’ circumference circle which then rotated within the frozen lake using a trolling motor on the inside ice circle perimeter. There was an ice bar and amenities in the middle. People (and dogs) from around the lake came and enjoyed spinning time together on this unique evening. Now that the concept is proven, we’re hoping for a repeat every year.
