Lake Safety and Courtesies

We hope you enjoy Christmas Lake!

It’s a small lake, and we ask that you follow these simple courtesies so that everyone can enjoy it too.

  1. Swimmers, please swim only with a high visibility float or spotter with you. If possible, please swim in a north-south lane along the west side of the lake.
  2. Everyone, please watch out for the baby loons and their parents who swim freely throughout the lake. Please give them a break and stay at least 100 feet away.
  3. Boaters, please have all required safety gear on board. Christmas Lake does not have water patrol to come to your immediate aid in an emergency.
  4. Please be aware that strong wave action close to shore is harmful to the shoreline, the nearshore fishery, and ecology of the lake.
  5. Please maintain a zero wake within 500 feet of the boat landing.
  6. Please maintain zero wake when close to shore and maintain reasonable distance from docks.
  7. Please surf in the “Surf Zone” (see map) at least 575 feet from shore and at least 20 feet deep to protect the shore and the lake bottom. Your wakes can be dangerous to others enjoying the lake.
  8. Please give a wide berth to swimmers, stand-up paddle boarders, kayakers, canoes, and anglers.
  9. Remember, under Minnesota Law, you are responsible for your wake and any harm it might cause. This includes shore damage or endangering others on the water.
